As a tradeswoman, contractor and teacher for thirty five years with a passion for historical restoration (especially terra-cotta buildings), Sherry Chapin had the pleasure of restoring many beautiful buildings in the Bay Area including the Alcatraz Theater, YMCA Embarcadero, the Hobart building, the Robert Dollar Building and San Francisco City Hall.
Sherry has retired as a training director for the Construction Inspectors Apprenticeship program under the Technical Engineers Division of Operating Engineers Local Union No. 3.
Chapin continues to teach apprenticeship readiness programs to youth and transitioning adults as a pathway to the middle class through Union labor.
Ironically, her art reflects her passion for patinas and texture found in the decay pf buildings and surfaces on Mare Island. She strives to find the beauty and the extraordinary in the ordinary.
